DR Formula was one of the fastest teams in the two-day Formula Regional European testing that ended yesterday at the Mugello circuit. Two weeks after the track return with youngster Emidio Pesce at Vallelunga following the lockdown, the squad led by Danilo Rossi fielded two single-seaters, one for Matteo Nannini.
The Forlì-based racer, who is set to make his FIA F3 Championship debut, set the second fastest time in 1:42.6, whilst Pesce was a bit slower to finish fourth.
The team did a great job at Mugello with each driver completing almost 130 laps. Nannini made his first appearance with DR Formula, although he raced in the same category last year. Pesce, who comes from the Italian F4 Championship, continued to improve his confidence with the Tatuus car looking forward his series’ debut. Meanwhile the 2020 calendar has beed definitely revised. The first round is scheduled on early August at Misano before heading to Paul Ricard, Red Bull Ring, Mugello, Monza, Barcelona, Imola and Vallelunga.
“This was my first test following the quarantine. I am pretty satisfied. With DR Formula I made a great job, finishing right behind another big team like Prema”, Matteo Nannini explained. “Formula Regional Tatuus is quite close to the Formula 3 car… same tyres and a similar cockpit.”
“We spent two very intensive days. They gave me the opportunity to take more confidence with the car and to compare with more other teams”, Emidio Pesce commented. “I set very interesting times, although we have more work to do now”.
The next commitment for DR Formula will be on 17/18 June at Misano for two more test days.
