DR Formula team is already set for the 2018 seasonal opener as it will hit the track this coming weekend – 19/20 January – in Abu Dhabi, challenging the first out of the three rounds of the F4 UAE Championship.
At Yas Marina circuit, the squad led by Danilo Rossi makes its debut in the Emirates series entering a car for Edoardo Morricone. The 15-year-old Italian karting driver, will contest also the last round in Dubai early next March.
On the same Dubai’ track, the 17-year-old Hungarian Laszlo Toth – one of the WSK and European Championship KZ2 front runners with DR Kart team – will contest the penultimate round scheduled for the first weekend in February.
Both Morricone and Toth will make their singe seater debut, looking forward the participation in the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth, the series that kicks off next April, in which DR Formula team claimed two victories last year with Artem Petrov, lining up other two cars for Italian Aldo Festante and the Brazilian rookie Felipe Branquinho.
Last December, in the most recent collective test at Vallelunga, Morricone performed an impressive job. The Teramo-born racer, at his very first appearance on the Roman track, set his quickest lap in 1:34.419, seven tenth from the best time and faster than the 2017 Marcus Armstrong’s pole position. His team mate Toth, who had already tested at the Mugello track on late November, was a couple of hundredth slower.
The official testing at Abu Dhabi gets underway on Thursday. Qualifying and free practice, as well as the first of the four 30-minute races will be held on Friday. The remaining races are scheduled for Saturday.
