The first of eight 2019 Formula Regional European Championship rounds ended with a double stop, as Igor Omura Fraga and his team-mate Raul Guzman finished Race three prematurely due to a contact.
At the Le Castellet track, the team led by Danilo Rossi and Fabio Pampado completed a bitter sweet weekend, with Fraga claiming a podium in the series’ inaugural race. The 20-year-old Brazilian driver set the fourth and third fastest time in the Qualifying to finish third in Saturday’s Race 1 after he moved up to second in the first laps, fighting with reigning Italian F4 Champion Enzo Fittipaldi who made a late successful overtaking move.
Starting Race two from the second row of the grid, Fraga showed a good pace again to claim another podium finish as a result of the Olli Caldwell disqualification. That let the DR Formula by RP Motorsport driver to take the third position in the Drivers’ standings.
His team-mate Guzman, who has been slowed down by mechanical problem in the Qualifying, took the fifth and fourth position recovering well.
The next Formula Regional European Championship round will take place on 4/5 May at the Vallelunga track.
