It was 397 days since DR Formula claimed the last victoryin the Formula Regional European Championship. One year later the team led by Danilo Rossi took the top spot with Ian Rodriguez. The Guatemala’s racing driver made a super debut, after he set the second best time in the the first qualifying session, to secure a lights-to-flag win in race one at Imola, in the penultimate round of the 2020 season.

Rodriguez, who turned 20 last July, impressed last week in the one-day test at the same venue, when he finished a few milleseconds behind front-runner Arthur Leclerc. Then he dominated the Wednesday’s collective testing.

After having secured this morning the first row of the grid for the first out of three weekend’s races, the DR Formula driver took the lead and kept behind him Dennis Hauger and Leclerc for all the 19 laps completed.

It was an up-and-down race for his team-mate Emidio Pesce. The Milan-based driver started well from the back of the grid to finish 10th after receiving a drive through penalty due to a contact with Jamie Chadwick.

Rodriguez will start tomorrow’s race two from second row, four places ahead of Pesce. The race will commence at 9:00, while race three will start at 14:20.
