DR Formula by RP Motorsport‘s Igor Omura Fraga has taken his maiden Formula Regional European Championship victory in the third race at the Red Bull Ring, Austriathis weekend. The 20-year-old Brazilian driver lined up on the front-row to take the lead as the light went out defending extremely well. 

Fraga pulled off a brilliant qualifying performance in Saturday’s second session to secure the second quickest time. Then he claimed a strong podium finish in the first race as he took the second position, equalling his best in the series to date. In Race 2 Fraga slammed into the back of the Frederik Vesti’s car in the first lap. That costed Brazilian racer a drive-through and the first position. Eventually Fraga finished ninth.

In the third race Fraga produced a an epic fight to the front – executing a fantastic overtake on the current championship leader Vesti to sweep in to the lead of the race himself, maintaining his first position ahead of Enzo Fittipaldi. With this victory, DR Formula by RP Motorsport’s racer stopped the Prema’s drivers hegemony.

Also in Race 3 Fraga’s team-mate Raul Guzman took a strong Rookie podium. The Mexican, finished third in the category as he claimed the fourth position place behind Vesti. Guzman, who showed well in Saturday’s Race 1 as he finished fifth, in the second race was forced to retire with a damaged wing.

Next round of the Formula Regional European Championship will be raced on the 1st of September at Imola. Meanwhile DR Formula by RP Motorsport will hit the track again this coming week for a test.
